Civil minister and social reformer Jo Gwangjo, who served King Jung Jong in the Joseon period, died on this day in 1519. He had played a key role in
establishing a society based on Confucianism, gaining the confidence of king of Jung Jong. Elder ministers opposed his reforms and he died of taking a bestowal of poison after being in exile. Opposed scholars included Namgon.
