Visit Korea Year 2001
World Cup 2002
Special Events in Korea

The beginning of the 21st century marks a very significant period for Korea. The year 2001 was heralded by the Korean president as "Visit Korea Year," preceding the co-hosting of World Cup 2002. There is much excitement in this flourishing country generated by this opportunity to proudly present itself to the world. In response to these   opportunities, a variety of tour packages and benefits have been prepared for foreign visitors.

There is great anticipation mounting worldwide in the build up to the FIFA World Cup 2002. As the first World Cup of the 21st century and for the first time being co-hosted by Korea and Japan in Asia, it is a highly significant event in both the promotion of soccer and world peace.

In recent years Korea has emerged as a competent host of international events. Having already successfully hosted the 2000 New Millenium events and ASEM conferences, it now awaits World Cup 2002 and the 2002 Busan Asian Games. Currently in 2001, Korea's tourist industry is being continually improved to provide specialized tours to suit the new millenium, thus presenting a new paradigm for Korean tourism. On a national level, there is a strategic focus on making tourism a significant industry for Korea.

There are many events being promoted for foreign visitors; local festivals are being expanded to an international level and a variety of new programs are being created and developed. Various innovative performances reflecting Korean culture are being established every day. These provide an intriguing comparison with Korean traditional performances, which were selected by UNESCO as the world's cultural heritage. This exciting program of events awaits you, the audience.
