Seoul Arts Center

Seoul Arts Center, which deals with all forms of musicals, opera, plays and art galleries, is the only cultural centre in Korea. Consisting of an opera house with 2,340 seats, a music hall, calligraphy hall, painting hall, and an art information hall, it is clear to see why the Seoul Arts Center is an exclusive venue.

The opera theater is the first asian opera theater and was built with various genres in mind, including opera, ballet, musicals and modern dance. The seats are arranged in a horseshoe shape three stories high, and the stages consist of a main stage and three assisting stages.   The interior has a modern design of violet and gold.

The music hall is well designed for concerts, whilst the painting hall has six exhibition rooms and is equipped with a thermostat which keeps the temperature and humidity at an appropriate level. The calligraphy hall is dedicated to calligraphy exhibitions, and calligraphy lessons are also held here. The art library is open to audiences who come to view performances and to people who have a special interest in culture and art.

Other facilities:

On the first basement there is an institute from which you can get information about movies. The first floor has a huge main exhibition room, which is used for various exhibitions.

The media center has information related to design, a design art gallery which holds exhibitions and a library image music hall. There is also a Library which can accomodate up to 250 people and is open from 10 a.m to 6 p.m (closed on Sundays).

There are Korean-styled ponds called Woomyunji outside, and a square where movies are shown. Sangjing square has sculpture exhibitions and art performances, and there is also a field that's used for weddings.

Take subway on line 3 and get off at Nambu terminal station.
