Korean nightlife
The nightlife in Korea has very much changed the last few years. Find out here the best hangouts to match your life style, age group, etc.
Bars Enjoy drinking all through the night
There was a time in Korea (in 1970's) when people weren't allowed to go out after midnight. If you had failed to return home by curfew, you had to remain in the bar until 4 am, at which time people were once again allowed out in the streets. Once the curfew was dropped, people went on drinking all night. Many popular bars do open until 2 or 3 am on Fridays and at weekends.
Nightclubs and rock bars - Feel the spirit
For young people who do not fancy sitting down to drink and prefer to hang out in lively places, hotel nightclubs are always a good location. At the weekends, those nightclubs are filled with young men and women on the look out. On spot meetings can be arranged through the waiters.
For those who would rather a more animated outing, rock bars are a good hangout. Hongdae, Daehangno, and Shinchon are the best areas for rock bars open all night. Prices are quite reasonable and you will meet a string of new people eager to enjoy themselves.
If you are in your 30s or 40s, you might prefer Dallanjujeom or Karaoke.
Late-night movie and computer games, a new culture..
Many young people do not spend their night drinking and wearing themselves out. For those, playing pool or going to rock bars isnt fun. They would rather instead watch late-night movies or go to live concerts, play computer games, chat, etc. Most of Seoul theaters show late-night movies. Between midnight and 6am, you can watch 3 movies for the price of 2. Computer games and chatting are also part of a new night culture initiated by todays youths.
