Seoul has been the capital of Korea since The Yi dynasty of Joseon. It is a big city steeped in history and tradition.

The year of 1994 was 600th anniversary of Seoul as capital of Korea. Seoul Metropolitan Government celebrated the anniversary with events such as planting a time capsule, to
be opened on the 1000th anniversary of Seoul as capital of Korea, in 2394.

Seoul has been known as an international city since the 1980s. The 24th Olympics were held in 1988, and the Asian games were held in 1986. The Seoul Olympics was the second Olympics held in Asia, and 160 countries in the world participated in the competitions, integrating Eastern, western, southern and northern countries after 12 year of partial nonparticipation.

The NGO international competition was held here in 1999, and the ASEM conference was held successively in 2000.
