- Where a Foreigner Can Feel At Home  Itaeweon is well known to foreign people rather than to Korean people living inside the country. Foreigners can enjoy comfortably sight seeing because most merchants understand and speak English. . Maybe for that reason, one remarks a lot of foreigners in the world, coming from not only U..S..A, but also South America, China, Japan. According to the result of investigation for travellers, it's the 1st famous place where they visited to see. Because there are a lot of exotic restaurants, and stores where merchants sold goods cheap, a lot of foreigners turned the steps toward that street of Itaeweon. Now, Let see that street 'Everything What One Wants to' Paradise of Shopping Things When one goes to the direction of Hannam-dong, after passing the street of Samgakgi in district of Yongsan, Dept of National Defense, and the monument commemorative of War, one can see the notice board of street 'Itaeweon'. Foreigners who visit Korea, usually go to see without forgetting the street, Itaweon. In Itaeweon street, about 2000 stores such as shopping stores, Inn, various restaurants, an amusement facilities, and trade merchant, trade agent, stand close together. In general, merchants deal in clothes, leather, antiques, and the stores are equipped with the articles such as famous brands of watches, every thing that tourists want, even golf club, in the back lane of the street. In many stores on Itaeweon street, merchants sell not only cheap and characteristic bonded goods but also large size clothes that aren't sold in the city. One remarks easily signboards indicating that 'there are large size of clothes,' or indicating 'Big & Tall'. 'Itaeweon' is known internationally, due to the imitation products of foreign brand such as leather products, but at present, the quality is approved exploring the main products such as suitcase, leather products, of their own brand. Besides, Itaeweon has been a black culture source such as rap, hip-hop, and one can see up to date international fashion such as fashion articles, clothes on this street. Since one can see far in advance of others, up to date fashion of U..S..A., Europe, Japan, in this street, people in charge of the products exploration visit often this street. Itaeweon which is well known in the world through Seoul Olympic, is designated first as the special district of sightseeing, in Seoul, on October 1997. Looking Around Itaeweon Street Between Hamilton hotel and Banpo street - it's Itaeweon central shopping center, and about 1000 stores where merchants sell the things such as leather products, suitcase, costume, stand close together. There are a variety of industrial art objects such as Korean traditional porcelain. * Entertainment establishment- What real amusement center appears in Itaeweon ,is originated from '7 Club', bar for exclusively U..S. troops which appears in 1962. After that, bars such as 'UN Club', 'Gate Way' which are for exclusively U..S. troops, open. At present, about 250 entertainment establishment; about 10 special Club for exclusively foreigners, about 60 night clubs and about twenty salon stand close together. In Several Places for the Rest of Foreigners Itaeweon have become established naturally as foreigner town since UN troops as well as U..S. troops stationed in Korea, after Korean war, it becomes extra large foreigner town after foreign diplomatic offices moved seriously into this street in 1960. The embassies and the consulates of about 40 foreign countries stand closely together, and there are a lot of luxurious hotels such as Height hotel, Hamilton hotel, Holiday hotel, Capital hotel etc., near the foreign diplomatic offices. And there are monuments to see such as Korean War monument, National central Museum, and there are also sufficient cultural facilities for leisure such as Yongsan family park. Most people coming in this commercial street communicate smoothly in English each other because they can speak English, but a lot of foreigners come together in Itaeweon to see friends who calm down their solitude Thus, in Itaeweon there are a lot of special bars for foreigners, club, and restaurants where they can enjoy and eat meal suitable for their taste. As for the special exclusive club for foreigners, there are Hollywood, King club, Ruby, Casablanka, and as for the restaurants, there are Nashville, Manhattan, Popay. As for jazz cafe, there is Oldat jazz, so it is utilized as the place where one shares their hard life in the foreign country. Information Center for Foreigners There is information centers for the foreigners in front of Hamilton Hotel, U..S. Tailer store, Foreign Exchange bank called 'woehwan' bank, Victoria town, Italy glasses store. The information centers provide fashion information, data and business information etc. Besides, Interpreters and specialists of trade, staying there, provide various information and convenience for the foreign tourists.
