Korea National Tourism Organization |
The Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) was established on June 26, 1962, as a result of the International Tourism Organization Law. Its multiple purposes include tourism promotion, tourism resource development, and training and education of tourism personnel. Currently, the organization's main tasks lie in both domestic tourism promotion and overseas tourism promotion projects which are designed to attract foreign visitors. In addition, the KNTO, as a governmental organization, is charged with implementing tourism policy.
To build and develop tourism resources within the Gyeongju Bomun district and Gyeongbuk Confucianism culture area, KNTO has invested in the Gyeongbuk Tourism Development Corporation (established in 1975) and Jeju International Convention Center (established in 1997).
In connection with the KNTO, the "Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT)," the governmental agency for tourism administration, is tasked with establishing policies for building and developing tourism infrastructure, the development of tourism resources, and overall support for the tourism industry. The MCT also overseas policy development among government divisions and works to achieve consensus. Regional governments support local tourism projects with their own cities and provinces.
