Ssamzie Space, a Complex Cultural Space

Entertainment and artistry are creatively combined to form an exotic atmosphere along the streets of Hong-Ik Univ. Experience creative and experimental arts in the middle of the street.

Ssamzie Space, which opened last June, is a complex cultural space along the streets of Hong-Ik Univ. that exhibits creative and experimental art, as well as introducing minor culture to the public.

Ssamzie Space has seven floors.   The first through third floors are mainly used for exhibitions, while the rest are used as working space for the artists. The exhibition space caters to up and coming artists, as well as the exhibitions of established art works and images. The exhibition space is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during weekdays.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, performances are shown, and the exhibition space is open until 10 p.m.   The third floor (ground level) is the main art gallery and is accessible from the street.   The main gallery holds experimental art exhibitions, and houses a small art shop called 'Young Collections Corner'.   This small shop exhibits and sells items with fantastic designs made by the artists.   All of the items made by the Ssamzie artists are reasonably priced.   The items include rings, necklaces, hand-phone accessories, wallets, bags, shoes, and art books to name just a few.

Visitors are also able to watch the performances of underground bands, and art performances. Avant-garde films are shown in the 'Wind' theater located on the second floor.   On the first floor is the club 'Sori'. It a multi-purpose space for drinks, exhibitions, mimes, and guitar performances.   The events go on from 3 p.m. until 1 a.m.
