Bukchang-dong Restaurant Street

Bukchang-dong is renowned for it's selection of fine foods, and is therefore very popular amongst foreign tourists, so much so that it has been added to Korea's list of places that are designated as particular tourist districts (which include Itaewon, Haeundae (in Busan), Gyeongbuk, and Jeju Island).

Over the next few years, the Korean government is planning to develop Myung-dong, Namdaemun Market and Bukchang-dong as particular places of interest for tourists.   Myungd-dong will be geared towards fashion and shopping, Namdaemun Market will be advertised as the biggest conventional market in Seoul, and Bukchang-dong is to become an area full of luxurious hotels, good restaurants and entertainment. The development of these three areas alone is expected increase the number of tourists visiting to 100,000, making a total number of 792,000 tourists per annum.

Bukchang-dong is a particularly important part of this plan, as it's already famous for it's range of delicious food.   Officially, Bukchang-dong falls under Jung-Gu, and is divided into Namdaemun street and Taepyeongno street. However, the area that runs from the back of the Seoul Plaza Hotel to Namdaemun Market is generally known as Bukchang-dong. The streets in this area are full of restaurants, many of which have tables on the sidewalk, and Bukchang-dong is also famous for its stores which sell many ingredients, particularly for Chinese food.
