Cartier (Hyundai Dept.) |
Founded in October 1984, the aim of the Cartier Foundation for contemporary art is to aid in the creation and recognition of contemporary art. As a tool offered to artists to allow them to invent, to create and to exhibit and as a meeting place for the most diverse forms of artistic expression, the Cartier Foundation has created a new role for corporate sponsorship in France.
By affirming the choices, freedom and eclecticism of contemporary art, the Foundation has, from the beginning, argued that contemporary art is a crucial voice in addressing the concerns of the modern world and has worked to bring that art to the largest possible public.
The Cartier Foundation, a dynamic outlet of exchange and dialogue, has developed a sustained relationship with the artists whose work it supports. The Foundation’s history
includes projects undertaken with such French artists as C?ar, Marc Couturier, Raymond Hains or Jean-Pierre Raynaud.
Through the commissions and acquisitions which enrich its collection and imaginative programming such as its Soir?s Nomades, the Cartier Foundation demonstrates its goals of bringing together artists and the public.
