| Namsangol Hanok Maeul opened to the public in 1998. It offers traditional gardens, a pavilion, and 5 buildings that have been moved or restored. The traditional garden is a wide open space in the midst of the hectic city. It also has a pond and resting square. |

You can also feel the atmosphere of Namsan with Pine trees, Zelkova trees, and Weeping Willows. Of the 23 traditional houses 5 have not been changed or moved. Of these only one house has been restored in its original position - it was so old that it was almost impossible to move. The buildings are arranged according to their class and size to show how our ancestors once lived.
Experience Traditional Korean Culture
At Namsangol you can also buy traditional craft work and experience traditional culture.
In the houses you can see and learn Korean calligraphy, Korean classical music, and embroidery techniques. Every Saturday afternoon there is a Korean traditional wedding ceremony, and at Dasaheon tea and snacks are sold. In the craft exhibition hall you can watch craftsmen at work producing folk paintings, needlework, and lacquer work inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
In the multipurpose garden you can see the traditional mask dance, Cheoyongmu (a dance to drive out evil spirits), and a Buddhist dance. There are also traditional games to enjoy such as swinging and putting the arrow into the bottle. There is a time capsule square on the southern corner of the garden of a crater shape, which was buried in 1994 to celebrate the 600th anniversary of Seoul. It is planned that the capsule will be opened up in 2394 by our descendants. It contains 600 products that represent contemporary Seoul.
