Korea's Climate

Korea is situated in the northern hemisphere. The country's latitude is 33~43 degrees north and 124~132 degrees east. Korea has 4 clear seasons, and the climate is temperate. Located in the eastern part of Eurasia and bordering the Pacific Ocean, Korea's climate is intermediate of Siberia and Mongolia's continental climate and Japan's oceanic climate.

Korea's low latitude, combined with the fact that three sides are surrounded by sea, means that the country has one of the lowest temperatures in the world along with areas of the same latitude.

The Siberian high atmospheric pressure that formed inside the continent creates a cycle of three cold days and four warm days. In January, which is the coldest month of the year, the temperature falls below 0¡ÆC except for Jeju, Ulreung and other islands that are greatly influenced by the warm current.

In Korea winter is long and cold and summer is long and hot. In August the temperature is highest because the warmth of the ground is by now extreme and the north Pacific high is also at its extreme. The temperature in most regions is above 30¡ÆC in August. In winter the temperature difference between north and south is great but it is not so much in August.

The distance according to the altitude is about 10¡Æ and 1000km in length. The temperature difference between Jeju located in the South Korea and Shinuiju in North Korea is 6¡É average and between Jeju and Junggangjin is 11¡É. In summer the difference is only 3¡É but in winter it's 25.6¡É.
