Chilseok

On July 7 of the Lunar Calendar, Chilseok is celebrated to honor the story of Gyeon Uh and Jik Nyeo. It is often raining on this day (and the rest of the month for that matter in Korea), so people say that Gyeon Uh and Jik Nyeo are crying for joy. Read the story.
A long long time ago god had a daughter named Jik Nyeo (Vega) and she always weaved on her loom. One day she saw Gyeon Uh (Altar), who lived in the Milky Way, and she fell in love with him, so she got permission to marry him from her father.

They loved each other so much that they became lazy and stopped working.   Their clothes turned to rags and their animals fell sick, so god got angry.   They both begged to be given a second chance, but god separated them and allowed them only to meet one day a year, July 7.

The story isn¡¯t true, but based on the constellations, we are close to the sky then, and July 7 is 7/7, so people consider it full of importance and they celebrate it.   Farmers during this time have almost finished all their planting, and the weather has reached that point where it turns towards fall.   Every household in the country digs a well and makes rice cakes for a prayer ceremony.   They also make wheat noodles, grilled wheat cakes with cucumbers, and eat peaches and watermelon.
