The Spicy- Sweet Taste of Korea,
Shindang-dong Tteokbok-ggi

In Korean traditional cooking there is called rice cake. Pressing steamed rice together makes the rice cake. To this rice cake you add Korean chilli sauce, spices, vegetables and mix it all together and this is Tteokbok-ggi.
This is one of the favorite foods of the Korean people and you can find this at any market or snack bar in Korea. Shindang-dong Tteokbok-ggi street is where all the popular Tteokbok-ggi houses are crowded.

Besides rice cake, boiled fish sausages, dumplings, and eggs can be added as well. At some shops you can mix in other things like tuna, ham, or squid, depending on what you like. One dish is usually between 1,000 and 1,500 won, plus extra for whatever else you add. With 5,000~6,000won you can have enough for two people.

From all the Shindang-dong Tteokbok-ggi houses the Mabongnim grandmother's shop is the oldest and she makes her own special chilli sauce which is excellent.
