Shilla

The rise of the New China dynasty during 7th century provided Shilla with the opportunity to expand its control over the whole peninsula.
An alliance of the two was formed and the combined armies first attacked Baekje (which quickly fell), followed by Goguryeo in AD 668.

The alliance, but was short-lived, since it turned out to have been a convenient ruse by the China dynasty.
The Shilla aristocracy had no intention of subscribing to such a plan and so in order to thwart China designs, switched alliance to what was left of the Goguryeo forces.

Unified Shilla presided over one of Korea¡¯s greatest eras of cultural development. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the countless tombs, pagodas, palaces, pleasure gardens and other relics which dot the countryside in and around present-day Gyeongju, the former Shila capital which is called museum city as there is a lot of ancient relics.
The beginning of 9th century discontent among those who were excluded from power had reached such a pitch that the kingdom began to crumble.
