Kimchi Museum, the Place to Go for a World of Kimchi

If asked to name one uniquely Korean food, nearly all people would say Kimchi without any hesitation. Kimchi is a unique food made with preserved vegetables such as Korean cabbage, radish, and cucumber. Its seasonings consist of hot pepper, garlic, green onions, ginger, and salted seafood.
Kimchi varies depending upon the main ingredients, seasons, and regions. Because of this, there exist almost 200 kinds of Kimchi.   Let's take a look at the Kimchi museum where we can discover all kinds of Kimchi.

The museum is located on the second basement floor of the Korea World Trade Center, Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.   It covers about 170 pyeong and is comprised of the main exhibit room, data rooms, and a tasting room.   In the main exhibit room, you can learn how Kimchi was invented and how it evolved to be what it is today.

You can also see restored ancient Kimchi and 40 kinds of Kimchi models, books on Kimchi, paintings, and pottery of different periods of time.   You can also discover what kind of Kimchi royal families and Buddhist monks used to eat. Also, you can see how Kimchi varies according to seasonal changes and regions.

In the Kimchi storeroom, you will be informed of many ingredients and seasonings, and you get to smell its unique aroma!   There is a traditional custom among Koreans, where Kimchi is prepared for the winter season with the help of all the neighbors. This too you can see at the museum.

In addition to all these, you can discover the whole process of Kimchi making through models.   All the materials used in the process are on dislay for you to touch and experience.   Visitors can see how Kimchi is stored in sheds, and the 150 different kinds of jars, including wooden jars, used to store the Kimchi.
