Where you can walk with no shoes on

Have you ever walked barefoot through a green park and felt the incredible freshness? The freshness, which comes after you walk on a road paved with stone and gravel, and which blows away the tiredness from the walking.

The most popular place in Seoul, nowadays, is this "Maenbal Park", which means "barefoot park".   As the name shows, you walk barefoot through the park, and by walking on this road you get a pressure therapy on your feet at the same time.   It is becoming quite popular since it provides you chance to feel the nature in the midst of city life.

"Maenbal Park" was built based on the theory of Eastern medicine, yet the effect of pressure therapy on feet is widely accepted by Western medicine.   Though the basic material is slightly different from one part of the park to the other, most of them are paved with amber, haemiseok, granite, wood, and gravel in order to aid the foot pressure therapy, blood circulation, and to recover immune system.   These special rocks and stones in the park roads stimulate the peripheral nervous system on foot, and that helps movements of internal organs and eases the muscle pain as well.

Currently, there are five "Maenbal Park" in Seoul, and its popularity is increasing.   The pioneers of this barefoot course in park were Yeongdeungpo Park and Yoeuido Park, and each of them has distinct course.

Yeouido Park has two 64 meters long barefoot courses, which are paved with healthy haemiseok.   Also, established last year, Boramae Park has 192 meters long course, and Yongsan Family Park's course is 146 meters long.   These parks are quite popular among business men, elders, and housewives due to their park roads paved with haemiseok, amber, granite, and wonjumok.

Also, there is a barefoot walking guideline, which explains how you can use this walking facility effectively with your walking skill.   Each course has different material, so you can choose the specific course you like to walk on. There are about 2,000 visitors a day in Boramae walking course, and 600 in Yongsan Family Park.

A barefoot park recently opened in Backbeom square, Namsan Park is paved with okdol, which can prevent various diseases and ease nerve strain.   Beside the okdol walk-way, there is a stream, by which you can feel the greater freshness.
The barefoot walking course is longer than 100 meters, and the stream runs 54 meters.   There are also benches and places where you can clean your feet.
