King Gojong and Queen Myeongseong¡¯s Marriage Ceremony

King Gojong and Queen Myeongseong¡¯s royal wedding was held at Unhyeongung. Visitors can see view for their very own eyes, the wedding of the century between King Gojong and Queen Consort Myeongseong at Unhyeongung, held several times a year.
The manners and decorum of royal wedding ceremonies were strictly regulated according to state law during the Joseon Dynasty.
When a prince finally chose a wife, regulations for the royal marriage were declared, forbidding all marital matters to be performed until the first of three steps for selecting the princess was completed.
Even royal members had to follow traditional Korean customs.   The bridegroom should go to the house of his bride to bring her home after the wedding ceremony. And the secondary or detached palace was used as the venue for the ceremony in place of the relatively small private residence of the bride's family.

A Wedding Ceremony

Nab-Chae(Wedding Present )   
When the bridegroom proposed to his future bride, he sent a present (Nab-Chea) to the bride¡¯s house. And in line with this, emperors who wanted to choose a future consort, also sent presents.

Gogi
The Emperor set the wedding date, called Gogi.

Chaebi
Chaebi is the ceremony for the Queen¡¯s coronation.

Chinyoung
Chinyoung refers to the king escorting the Queen to the royal villa.

Dongroe
Dongroe refers to the king and queen¡¯s first night after the wedding ceremony.
