#1 Tourists Pick in Seoul. - Market with the Kindness and Warmth of the Korean People

Which place in Seoul do tourists think is the most impressive place? The Seoul City Hall surveyed 700 tourists in Seoul in November 2000 and the results revealed that the #1 place picked by tourists was Jungbu market. Jungbu market is an old style market which deals in dried seafood. But what else does Jungbu market have that attracts tourists? Let's take a closer look at the attractiveness of Jungbu market.
Traditional Korean markets are always full of liveliness and people.   Korean people often say that whenever life gets harsh on you, you should go to a somewhat noisy market where you can absorb the liveliness around you.

Like the most traditional markets in Korea, Jungbu market also exudes the warmth and affection of the people in it.   This market, located down town, has about 2,300 stores selling seaweed, brown seaweed, squid, anchovy, dried pollack, dried corbina fish, and many other dried seafoods.   This well known dried seafood market has a 50-year history.

Jungbu market, located in Euljiro, is popular because you can experience the unique and traditional taste of Korean food.   It is also convenient to reach by public transportation. Various dried seafoods are displayed in different sizes and for different uses.   It seems like there is almost everything from the three seas (West sea, South sea and East sea) of Korea.   Jungbu market opens at 4 a.m. for the merchants from the countryside, and closes at 2 p.m.   All the merchants have left by 5 p.m. so be sure to get there early to enjoy the atmosphere.   One advantage of shopping in Jungbu market is that you can buy very high quality dried seafood.   Recently, processed dried seafood's have increased in sales.   Roasted seaweed and dried fish are the most famous processed seafood.

Other attractive features are the market's variety and cheap prices.   Dried seafood from all over the country is brought to the market, and the variety provides customers with more choices.   The items are sold at wholesale prices that are 20% cheaper than department stores and big shopping centers.   If you visit during closing hours, you can buy items at even cheaper prices.   It is fun to bargain for cheaper prices and even ask them to give you a little more than you pay for.   Jungbu market has it's own homepage on the Internet where the stores are listed according to the items they sell.   The homepage makes it easy for customers to find specific items or stores they want.   If you click on a store, you can get visual and written information about the items, prices, phone number, and many other things.

If you want to go there by public transportation, take subway line number 2 or 5 and get off at Euljiro 4 ga station.   From Jungbu market you can catch a bus in almost any direction.   It will be enjoyable to visit Jungbu market where you can feel the excitement of Korea's traditional markets and meet kind Korean people.
