The Best Spiritual Culture Sport, Archery

The arrow was used since Goryeo time according to classical literature. That gradually enlarged into archery in present time. Archery was the best sport for spirit training for all Korean population.
What is Archery?

Archery was the most popularized and common sport among Korean and learning archery was essential thing for high class population. Therefore, our ancestor train their mind and body through the archery. Especially Korean had remarkable skill to manufacture the arrow and ability to handle the arrow. That is why Korean received respect from neighbor hood countries. The archery is made from our ancestor's spirit and wisdom and it became the traditional sport.

Its characteristic and effect
   
(1) Traditional sport through Korean's soul and wisdom
(2) Different from other sport, physically disabled person also can enjoy. People of all ages and both sexes can take pleasure in archery because of no violence.
(3) Individual and group can equally enjoy it, since it is only fight between archer and the targe. And that's other reason why archery can be interesting to everyone.
(4) It is important to have good posture and behavior, especially requires strong backbones and chest.
(5) Concentration is another important point in archery. You can hit the mark when the mind and body are unified.

Match process

Archery has an individual and a group match. In group match, 7 representative players participate, and 5 best recorded archer play in Province and City competition.
In individual match, only a holder of rack in archery can participate for women's and men's archery matches.

The procedure and regulation slightly vary on each matching game. Usually, in group provincial and city competitions, one participant play as team, and in final matching game, 5 players group as one team. In individual game, 7 participants play in smae match and the final result determines the ranking.

Instrument of Tournament

The bow and arrow also vary depending on each tournament. There are two kinds of   regulation bows, Gakgung and F.R.P by The Korean Archery Association. Only Gakgung is used in provincial and city tournament, also Juksi is used as an arrow.
It is forbidden to bond an artificial instrument such as a sight.
