The Original Place of Taste Gwangju, and Its Festival

Jeolla Province is famous for korean food and its taste, especially for Kimchi. They are opening eighth Kimchi festival in Jeolla province. It is strongly recommended to visit and discover about Kimchi and various korean traditional foods in this festival.
The importance of Kimchi festival in Gwangju

Honam region including Gwangju, has outstanding taste of food due to abundant agricultural products and cultural food is remarkable compared to other regions. Because of its developed recipe of Korean food, Kimchi festival became known as a great touristic site. That also activates economics and provides financial helps through tourist business.

Kimchi experience for foreigners

Kimchi festival provides many programs for foreigner visitors every year, such as making Kimchi contest for general visitors, contest for diplomatic officials and singing contest, event of cultural experience, folk recreation and many more cultural activities.

There are an application of Kimchi making contest among the various concours, therefore you can learn about many different kinds of Kimchi. Staffs of restaurants, students, and professionals of Kimchi are participating these contests, therefore there are many unique and new kinds of Kimchi which were never introduced before, even for Koreans.

There is another advantage of the contest. This contest can be a good opportunity for all visitors because spectators can make their own Kimchi in cheap price and consume it in same time. There are also a free trial food court of Kimchi and it is possible to purchase your favorite kind.

More than 100 different kinds of Kimchi are introduced. Besides, various Korean side dishes, such as sliced vegetables preserved in soy sauce, and all kinds of seasonings are also prepared. You also have the chance to compare Japanese Kimchi and other foreign fermented foods. It is very useful to learn about Korean traditional food and its uniqueness.

The composition of exhibition

Pavilion of Kimchi
About 200 kinds of side dishes besides regional and seasonal Kimchi and about 40 kinds of foods applying Kimchi are displayed. The history and effects of Kimchi are also presented.   Medicinal use, temple food, prize-winning Kimchi and corner of North Korean Kimchi are also provided in this pavilion. Japanese and Chinese invented Kimchi are displayed. In event hall, all kinds of different programs are screening. This pavilion is mainly composed by the actual Kimchi industry and historical collection from the Kimchi festivals.

Pavilion of Experiencing home town
Scene in this pavilion stirred a vague nostalgia, decorating traditional house into miniature and adding home animals such as rabbits and chicks. A terrace where soy sauce crocks are also placed. This pavilion is delicately decorated and providing many interesting sights.

Production industry Pavilion
This pavilion has 3~4 large scale of Kimchi production industries. Each industry line produces Kimchi. You can compare and purchase Kimchi in this pavilion. The pavilion for buyers are separately arranged.

Korean folk Museum
Korean traditional activities, new year's custom, traditional industrial art and many more folk sights are offered.
